From Delinquent Doggy to Patient Pooh

There are many things you need to consider when purchasing a life long partner. Obedience training for dogs is an important responsibility and a major consideration for any dog owner. A well behaved dog is a socially accepted dog.

In my life time, I have owned many dogs. Most of which I never even considered obedience train for my dogs for, until 8 years ago. At that time my husband purchased a beautiful Chocolate Lab puppy for me after the birth of our daughter. We thought every child should grow up with a dog so we got them grow together. We did no research into the breed or our families needs.

Obedience training for dogs wasn’t even a consideration in purchasing. We brought this loving and very playful puppy home and had no idea what we were in for.

This was a puppy with a lot of energy and extremely destructive. She chewed up the wood in the floor of our 100 year old house, she would jump on the tables and counters to get food, she chewed the hose that went into the back of the toilet, and she would knock people down as came in the house. The biggest thing (that we thought cute at first) was that she would curl up on my husbands shoulders to sleep.

That was real cute until she started growing bigger and bigger. Obedience training for dogs is something she needed bad. In the mist of my frantic frustration of her destroying my house yet again one morning, I ran across an advertisement for “Obedience Training for Dogs”. I was elated. I called them right away.

The lady on the phone explained that she does professional dog training as well as a general obedience training for dogs. She said that she tough an 8 week course where the dog and the owner learned together. I decided to do a drop in for a visit of her kennel to speak with her about her obedience training for dogs course in person.

This is part of the homework that you need to do as a responsible pet owner to learn about the people that are going to be teaching you and your family member obedience training for dogs. Upon arrival I found a very polite owner with an impeccably clean kennel. She provided an indoor arena where our classed were going to be held, and an outdoor area for obedience socialization.

I was very impressed so 3 weeks later, Brandy (my dog) and I started our obedience training for dogs class. We went to class two nights a week for 8 weeks, then we would come home and practice what we learned. Graduation day finally arrived. I wasn’t sure she was ready. She sat, she laid, she rolled over, she even left a treat sitting that I told her to. Then the big test was she was to stay and only come when I called her.

I told her to sit. I let go of the leash, walked to the other side of the arena (looking back to make sure she hadn’t moved) and stopped. I looked a that beautifully happy little face and said “Brandy come”. She got up walked over to me and sat next to my legs. I was so proud.

What I learned from this experience is that obedience training for dogs with professional dog training is an essential part of being a responsible dog owner. You train your child to behave, so why wouldn’t you train your dog. I turned my delinquent doggy into a patient pooch.
